First Baptist Church of Troy's 225th Anniversary!

Do you remember the sign on a church in Troy that said “Jesus Saves?”

Years ago the sign that said “Jesus Saves” was on the First Baptist Church of Troy. The sign was very visible and stories are told of truckers who stopped in for a service to find out what the church sign meant. Our church actually began in Fitzwilliam in 1789. For over 40 years they met in schools and homes until they began meeting with the First Congregational Society in the town house in Troy. The main part of our current building was built in 1849 with bricks made in Troy and the immense slabs of granite came from the Troy Granite Quarry. In our 225 years with over 50 different pastors the doors of the church have never been closed to worship.

This year we are celebrating our 225th anniversary on Saturday November 15 and Sunday November 16. Our theme is “Jesus STILL saves!” We invite you to join us. Everyone is welcome!

Our 225th celebration will begin with a “meet and greet” service on Saturday evening November 15 at 7 pm followed by a dessert fellowship. On Sunday, November 16 we will begin the day with coffee at 10 am followed by the service at 10:30 am. Everyone is invited to stay after the service for a free turkey dinner. Our celebration will end with an afternoon service and communion at 3:00 pm. Our special guests are Rev. Derrick and Eilleen Rollerson from Westlawn Gospel Church in Chicago, IL.

First Baptist Church of Troy is located at 17 North Main St. on Rte. 12 in Troy. We meet every Sunday at 10:30 am preceded by coffee and refreshments at 10 am. Nursery and Junior Church are provided during the message. Parking is available along the side and at the rear of the church. Our small group Bible study and prayer time is on Tuesday evenings at 7 pm at the parsonage. Everyone is always welcome. If you have any questions feel free to contact Pastor Donn Williams at 242-3069.

We are thankful for the past but we are looking forward to the future. The sign “Jesus Saves” is gone but the message is still here… Jesus STILL saves. If you have never been to our church please come and see what we are all about. If you have been before please come again and renew fellowship with us. We will be honored to have you celebrate this special occasion with us. Please join us in our celebration as we reminisce over the past and look forward to the future.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold the new has come. ” II Corinthians 5:17
